Saudi Arabia denounces Israeli statements on Philadelphi Corridor

RIYADH, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) — The Saudi Foreign Ministry has condemned the Israeli claim that arms were being smuggled into the Gaza Strip through the Philadelphi Corridor from Egypt.
In a statement published on Tuesday, the ministry criticized Israel for attempting to use the claim to justify its ongoing violations of international laws and norms.
The ministry stressed Saudi Arabia’s solidarity with Egypt in the face of these allegations, warning that such provocative remarks could undermine mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States aimed at securing a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
It also cautioned that such statements could further raise regional tensions. The ministry reiterated the importance of alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people and called for unified international efforts to support their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Netanyahu alleged on Monday that weapons were being smuggled to Hamas through the Philadelphi Corridor along the Egypt-Gaza border. Egypt rejected Israel’s claim on Tuesday, accusing the Israeli side of using the claim to justify its “aggressive and provocative” policies. ■
